How many times have we bought products that claim to be effective for a certain purpose and we don't see good results? We may even buy something trivial that indicates it is effective for the control of a certain situation but we see its effectiveness.

For an activity that deals with numerous situations where there is subjection to viruses, bacteria or fungi, it is extremely important to have confidence in products that are registered and certified by the competent authorities, such as INFARMED, DGS, DGAV, CIAV or ECHA.

In these tests different types of bacteria are used  (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus hirae).

If there is an efficacy also against mycobacteria, the product must be proven to be effective against several diseases that may originate therefrom, such as leprosy, tuberculosis and infections with non-tuberculous mycobacteria.

If it is claimed that the product is effective against fungi, there is also an obligation to carry out a quantitative suspension test to evaluate the fungicidal or yeeduricidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics, demonstrating that there was a logarithmic reduction of 4.

The well-known coronavirus also has its own specific test. For a given product to indicate that it is effective against this virus, it must eliminate not only this virus, but other viruses using in the test the vacciniavirus that mimics viruses with an envelope (coronavirus, herpesvirus, poxviridae (monkeypox virus family).

In addition to this specific test for coronavirus, there are also tests for "general" virucidal effectiveness and "limited" virucidal effectiveness.
